The Challenge
NEF needed to connect a large enterprise customer to a national telecom carrier's existing metropolitan backbone network.
Background
The national telecom carrier had a national service contract with a Fortune 500 company. The contract required the carrier to connect all the customer's locations with diverse entrances.
Business Challenge
The national carrier needed to find the most economical way to connect the enterprise customer's location to their metropolitan backbone network. The requirement for network diversity would require constructing two laterals into the enterprise customer's facility and placing over two miles of underground plant that included a railroad crossing. Total cost for the construction project was over $1 million. The cost of construction made the deal unprofitable, and the timeframe to construct was not acceptable to the customer.
Network Solution
NEF sourced a cost-effective dark fiber solution for the carrier. With access to numerous dark fiber networks in the metropolitan area, NEF was able to secure the lease to existing fiber that allowed the national carrier to be operational with its dark fiber connection in 30 days. The use of existing fiber virtually eliminated the cost and time required to construct new lateral connections.
The dark fiber option saved money over constructing new fiber plant and provided the carrier complete control over the connection to its customer.
